Our Story

After teaching private/group lessons to college, high school, youth and church groups for over 10 years Coach Andrew Kurzawski  (Current Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Point Park University – former assistant women’s basketball coach at Penn State Beaver, Carlow University and St. Vincent College – graduate assistant) established Gym Rat Performance Training in 2016 which embraces athletes of all ages, sports and ability levels and works to help them build confidence and physicality. Gym Rat PT has now become a go to for elite athletes looking to take their athleticism to the next level in Western Pennsylvania particularly basketball athletes looking to develop both their skills but also their athletic performance.

What makes us different? 

Our programs are designed to suite the needs of each athlete. All athletes are not created equal…every athlete is unique. We have trained youth and high school athletes as well as athletes from NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA programs as well as pro and semi pro athletes. When you make an investment in us our goal is to go beyond your expectations to give you / your athlete THE VERY BEST individual attention they have ever had. What we stress? 

Our programs are built upon 3 principles:

We build confidence – athletic ability and knowledge of the game can only take a player so far. Ultimately a great athlete has to have confidence within to achieve their potential. During your time with Gym Rat Performance Training you will be thoroughly instructed in the mental aspects of athletic performance to help you fulfill your athletic peak. 

We teach fundamentals and skills – the game is based on doing the small things perfectly so that one may build upon this foundation and progress to the harder skills required to be an elite level player. Our programs teach the foundations and do not progress to the intermediate and advanced skills and techniques until one masters the process. As the old adage proclaims, “One cannot run before they can walk.” 

Athletic performance training – We know that to take your game to the next level we also have to take your athleticism to the next level. Under the guidance of Coach Kurzawski (who is a certified personal trainer, worked with nationally renown D1 Sports Performance Training and has worked as a college strength and conditioning coach) you will be introduced, instructed and challenged in some of the latest muscle building and speed/agility training in order that you may reach your athletic peak.
